David Walters Faculty Recital
Pianists David and Gigi Walters will present a piano recital in Roland Hayes Concert Hall at the UTC Fine Arts Center on Monday, September 24, at 7:30 PM. The program features classics from the piano repertoire, including Egon Petri’s transcription of J.S. Bach’s “Sheep May Safely Graze”, the Ballade in F Minor and 3 Etudes by Frédéric Chopin, a piano duet version of Astor Piazzolla’s Libertango, and the “Eroica Variations” by Ludwig van Beethoven.
David Walters currently serves on the music faculties of The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, Chattanooga State Community College, the McCallie School, and Cadek Conservatory of Music where he teaches classical and jazz piano. He received Bachelor and Master of Music degrees in Piano Performance from the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music where he studied with Olga Conus, David Bar-Illan, and Richard Morris. A highly versatile performer, Mr. Walters is as well known in the field of jazz as he is for his extensive work in classical music. He has performed at universities throughout the region, and his performance resume includes many chamber music concerts, solo piano recitals, local and regional appearances with his jazz trio, the David Walters Trio, and numerous appearances throughout the area as a solo jazz pianist. He has performed at many public and private events, including the United States Governors Conference and an event for former President Gerald Ford. Mr. Walters has appeared on six jazz CDs.
Gigi Walters received a Bachelor of Music degree in Piano Performance from The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga where she studied with Earl Miller and Arthur Rivituso. She received a Master of Music degree in Piano Performance from the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music where she studied with Santos Ojeda and Raymond Dudley and also participated in an ongoing piano master class taught by David Bar-Illan. Ms. Walters has performed classical music as well as popular and standard music throughout the area, and she was the regular pianist for 20 years at the Mountain City Club. She and her husband, David, have performed duo piano and piano duet concerts in Ohio and in the Chattanooga area. Ms. Walters taught piano for a number of years in Cincinnati, Ohio. Her other music-related interests are composing and arranging.
