What is UTC Learn?

UTC Learn, powered by Blackboard, is the learning management system (lms) for the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga.  Our goals are to extend the classroom environment through technology; provide the ability for faculty and staff to facilitate collaboration on- and off-campus; and help improve the learning experience of our students by providing a platform for online, hybrid and face-to-face courses.

The Walker Center for Teaching and Learning (WCTL) is responsible for faculty support and training as well as the management and technical support of the LMS software and hardware.

Communication of Downtime

Scheduled Downtime – UTC Learn has a regularly scheduled monthly maintenance.  During the week prior to the scheduled downtime, the UTC Learn administrator will send an email to the faculty, students, and UTC subscribers to announce the upcoming downtime.  For outages related to upgrades of the system, detailed upgrade plans will be communicated to the campus.

Non-Scheduled Downtime – In the event of an emergency outage or non-scheduled downtime, the notifications will be placed on the  UTC Learn website.  If the system is functioning properly, users will see a message in green displayed on the page.  If the system is sluggish and slow, users will see a message in yellow displayed on the page with a message describing the issue.  This message will be updated every 30 minutes until the situation is resolved.  If the system is completely inaccessible, users will see a message in red displayed on the UTC Learn website with an update.

UTC Learn Technical Requirements

In order to make optimal use of UTC Learn, users must be sure they are meeting the minimal technical requirements.  Users are encouraged to use the Browser Check to help ensure the software and settings are configured correctly.
