Welcome to the GSA's ML5K Race!

Our Vision

The ML5K Race is brought to you by the UTC Graduate Student Association as part of our effort to create sustainable programs that provide opportunities to connect graduate students across disciplines, campuses and communities.

Our Mission

In honor of the rich legacy UTC shares with the MLK Community, all proceeds from this year's race will be put toward the first Graduate Student Diversity Endowment, which will provide an annual scholarship to a minority student exhibiting academic excellence and a commitment to community service.

Race Description

The annual ML5K Race is brought to you by the Graduate Student Association at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga as part of our effort to create sustainable programs that provide opportunities to connect graduate students across disciplines, campuses, and communities. The race will be a celebration of graduate students and the Chattanooga community. All proceeds from the race AND RACE ENTRY FEES will go directly towards funding scholarships for graduate students at UTC. To end out our Graduate Student Appreciation Week, the 5K will be on April 6, 2019 at 10 a.m.

The race will start and finish near Heritage Plaza outside of UTC's University Center. *Note: The current course map is subject to change. We are working to finalize the course for 2019 soon!

From the Race Director

Emily Nixon

Hello runners!

I am excited to serve as the race director for the ML5K this year. I have a strong background in running and have been a long-distance runner for 10 years now. I ran for Adrian College in Michigan for four years and continue to run road race 5Ks whenever I have the opportunity to. This is my first time putting a 5K on instead of running in the race, but I am looking forward to utilizing my past experiences as we continue to plan and promote this event.

The Graduate Student Association’s Philanthropy Committee is in charge of the management of this event and we have some excellent graduate students this year getting details in place. We are also looking forward to incorporating community service into our Graduate-Professional Student Appreciation week within the MLK Community leading up to the ML5K Race. Details on how you can get involved with the community service project or volunteering for the event will be coming soon. We will be finalizing details throughout the spring semester so keep checking back for further updates! Our Committee is working hard to continue on the ML5K tradition from its’ inaugural year last year and we want to ensure a good experience for returning and new runners. Register today to support graduate student scholarships at UTC and to support higher education in Southeast Tennessee!

I hope you will join us for a RUN or WALK on April 6. See you then!

Sincerely,

Emily Nixon,

Graduate Student Association Philanthropy Chair
