Coming to the UTC Fine Arts Center for three performances of A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Actors From The London Stage, one of the oldest established touring Shakespeare theater companies in the world, bring their pared-down approach to presenting Shakespeare to Chattanooga. Co-founded by renowned British actor Patrick Stewart, Actors From The London Stage are performing Shakespeare’s classic on March 3, 4, and 5 in the Fine Arts Center’s Dorothy Ward Theatre as part of a one-week residency program at UTC.
Coming from such prestigious companies as the Royal Shakespeare Company; the Royal National Theatre of Great Britain; and Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre, the classically trained actors from AFTLS devote a large part of their time to student interaction. Be it in classroom workshops, on stage demonstrations, text readings or informal meetings with students who want to know more, AFTLS actors are truly committed to teaching and making themselves entirely accessible to students during their stay on campus. During the teaching week, our actors bring their knowledge to a wide variety of classes, not only for courses on Shakespeare but also theatre, literature, and communication courses. They get students up out of their chairs and act with them to learn how Shakespeare's texts become scripts, words become actions, and actions become meaning.
