UTC Performances is the successor to the performing arts series formerly known as the Patten Performances, which was inaugurated by the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga in 1980 as the Dorothy Patten Fine Arts Series, in honor of one of Chattanooga’s most famous performing artists. Ms. Patten appeared in over 30 Broadway plays, countless touring and summer stock productions, television shows and the movie Botony Bay , with Alan Ladd and James Mason.

The series celebrated the opening of the then-new UTC Fine Arts Center and brought nationally and internationally renowned artists to the University community and the Chattanooga area. Over the years the Fine Arts Center hosted the finest talent in music, dance and theater, including Dave Brubeck, Isaac Stern, SF Jazz, Wynton Marsalis, BeauSoleil avec Michael Doucet, Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Dance, Ramsey Lewis, Ladysmith Black Mambazo, Pilobolus Dance Theatre, Dave Mason, The Tokyo String Quartet, Complexions Contemporary Ballet, the Vienna Boys Choir, The Acting Company, Diavolo, and Rosanne Cash, among many, many others.
With the Fine Arts Center being closed for part of the academic years 2018-2019 and 2019 - 2020, a new series, focusing on Americana and blues musicians from the Southeast, is being created for the 2019 - 2020 academic year. Performances will be held in Cadek Hall's recently and beautifully renovated 240-seat piano recital hall where we plan to showcase artists who have made themselves a part of the southern fabric through their amazing performances and storytelling. We look forward to seeing you in Cadek Hall in the near future!
