UTC designated as 2019 Tree Campus USA®

This national program “honors higher education institutions and their leaders for promoting healthy trees and engaging students and staff in the spirit of conservation." This is the tenth consecutive year that UTC has received this designation. The campus reapplies each year and has to follow five standards to be considered for this honor. School Grounds Award

City of Chattanooga Tree Commission

The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga was presented the 2012 School Grounds Award by the Chattanooga Tree Commission. The award recognizes the enhancements UTC has made over the past few years to campus grounds, including the adoption of a formal Tree Care Plan, over 600 trees plantings, achieved certified Tennessee Arboretum status, and incorporation of landscaping into the Campus Master Plan.

University Green Power Leadership Award

By purchasing green power with the student-approved green fee “the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga is supporting the development of clean renewable energy in Tennessee,” according to Reagan Richmond, Campus Programs Director for the Southern Alliance for Clean Energy.

“Green Power Switch is all about consumers stepping forward to support cleaner energy being generated in the Tennessee Valley,” said Patty West, TVA director of renewable energy programs. “This program is successful only through the efforts of local distributors of TVA power, and people and businesses who commit to making the region a little bit ‘greener’ each month. We are proud to recognize those going above and beyond the norm in supporting TVA’s renewable goals in 2011 on behalf of Green Power Switch.”

Since 2010, the Southern Alliance for Clean Energy has “recognized individuals and institutions actively supporting a clean and efficient energy future through campus initiatives at the Summit for Campus Sustainability.” UTC was recognized at the Green Power Switch Leadership Awards dinner held in Memphis as part of the 2012 Tennessee Valley Solar Solutions Conference.
