The Science of Skin Color: How we misinterpret the meaning of skin color

Dr. Ashmore is the Department Head of the Social, Cultural, and Justice Studies and Chair of the Council of Academic Department Heads for the University of Tennessee Chattanooga. She received a B.A. in Anthropology from Central Connecticut State University, a M.A. and Ph.D. in Biological Anthropology from Washington University in St. Louis.  Dr. Ashmore came to UTC from the University of Missouri in St. Louis (UMSL) in August of 2012. Her research interests include primate behavior and ecology, human variation, and science education.  Dr. Ashmore was the CoDirector of the Center for Human Origin and Cultural Diversity (CHOCD) an educational program at UMSL for middle school students and adults that engaged participants in inquiry-based learning about human origins, biological and cultural human variation.
