- Michelle’s career in higher education has focused on creating equal access for students, faculty, staff, and visitors with disabilities. By remaining fluent in the language of the Americans with Disabilities Act-Amendments Act through all of its changes, she have been able to create and manage an effective Disability Resource Center at The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. As a result of Dr. Rigler’s leadership, UTC is among the Top 50 Disability Friendly campuses in the country. Dr. Rigler’s most recent goal is to work with campus partners to create a culture of access at UTC where accessibility is thought about in the beginning.
Building A Culture of Access
This session will focus on participants changing the lens through which they view disability and accessibility. This session will examine some disability history and the disability rights movement as it has progressed. Participants will engage in conversations about access through activities and scenarios while receiving information in a presentation based way. Participants will leave this session with a stronger understanding about Accessibility and how it is beneficial to all.
