The Authors and Artists Scholarship in Creative Writing
LETTER OF INTEREST: Please email as an attachment with a signature and date a letter of about 500 words discussing your interest in pursuing creative writing and describing the extent of your financial need. Preferences will be given to those whose letters reflect their intellectual curiosity and passions, and not merely their professional goals. Then again, you might describe the kinds of courses, texts, or intellectual problems that inspire you to do your best work and explain what it is about them that so engages you. In describing your financial need, be sure to emphasize the sort of contributing factors that might not be apparent to the English Department Scholarships Committee from a glance at your financial aid records and to be as specific as possible in describing how a scholarship award would encourage or advance your scholarly development.
ENTRIES: Submissions should be 5 pages of poetry or prose, saved as a PDF file.
The Thelma Styles Igou Poetry Scholarship
To be awarded to students who have been accepted for admission or are enrolled at The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. The student given this Award shall have demonstrated excellence in the writing of poetry. All other qualifications and considerations being equal, it is the Donor’s preference that consideration for these awards be given to students demonstrating financial need.
