Grade Appeal Form for ESL Students

1. Grade Appeal Form for ESL students:

It is the responsibility of each faculty member to determine the final grade for each student according to criteria clearly defined and explained in the syllabus. Whenever a student desires to appeal a grade due to the belief that his or her rights and interests have been jeopardized by way of unfair, arbitrary, or malicious exercise of faculty grading prerogatives, the following appeal procedures must be followed:

STEP 1: Conversation with the instructor.

STEP 2: Appeal to the ESL Institute.

STEP 3: Review and decision by the ESL Institute.

STEP 4: Appeal to the Executive Director for the Center for Global Education (if decision is rejected).

2. Placement Test Result Appeal: 

Students can launch an appeal if they feel that they have been placed incorrectly and wish to be considered for a different level. Appeals can only be granted after the ESL Institute receives positive recommendations from ESL Faculty and/or the ESL Coordinator. Placement Test Appeals can be submitted in person or in writing no later than two business days after the first day of class. The deadline for the last day to register or drop a class must be met.

STEP 1: Conversation with the instructor.

STEP 2: Contact the ESL Coordinator in writing at esl@utc.edu or in person at Hooper Hall 202A within 2 days of the first day of class.

STEP 3: Attend an advisement session to review your placement test results and faculty recommendations.

STEP 4: Complete an additional oral test (if requested by the ESL Institute).

STEP 5: Review and decision by the ESL Institute.

STEP 6: Appeal to the Executive Director for the Center for Global Education (if decision is rejected).

 


 

High School Diploma waiver request form

High School Diploma Waiver Request

 3. High School Diploma Waiver Request: 

Applicants may request that the ESL Institute waive the High School Diploma requirement. The waiver request form must be submitted during the admissions process with any supporting documents the applicant may have at his or her disposal. All other admission requirements must be met in order for this waiver request to be considered. The waiver request must be uploaded in the Self-Service Center of the application system in lieu of the High School Diploma.

STEP 1: Complete your online application.

STEP 2: Provide all other supporting documents by uploading them in the Self-Service Center (your online application system).

STEP 3: Fill out the High School Diploma Waiver Form and save it on your hard drive.

STEP 4: Upload the High School Diploma Waiver Request in the Self-Service Center (your online application system).

STEP 5: Review and decision by the ESL Institute and the Executive Director for the Center for Global Education.
