Advice for ESL students
For more interesting conversations, ask lots of “wh-“ questions. “Wh-“ questions begin with words like “what,” “when,” “why,” “where,” and ”how.” You will get more information, opinions, and advice from your “wh-“ questions than from yes/no questions alone, and you can use “wh-“ questions to steer the conversation in any direction you choose.

Hometown: Chattanooga is my boomerang city. I have lived in Chattanooga - Columbia, South Carolina - Chattanooga - Atlanta - Chattanooga - Vermont - Chattanooga - New York City - CHATTANOOGA. It's great to be home.
Areas of expertise: I enjoy using extensive reading activities to help students develop the daily habit of reading for pleasure and information. In my experience, intermediate students who read 30 minutes a day typically double their reading speed within four weeks, lessen their dependence on dictionaries, and start to develop a more intuitive feel for preposition use and English sentence structure.
Favorite place on campus: My favorite place on campus is the grass under any large shade tree.
Favorite thing about UTC: UTC does a superb job of connecting international students with the business, tech, artistic, and natural worlds of Chattanooga.
Interesting facts: I write simple songs with the help of a guitar named Sophia.
