Why did you choose UTC CECS?
During the 2020 pandemic I was interested in pursuing a Masters in Computer Science. I began searching for online programs in Tennessee and eventually came across the UTC website. I liked what was required for the program and the different curriculum options available sounded really interesting!
What is your career ambition and how is the MS program helping you get there?
I am aiming to become a software/data engineer. This career requires skills such as problem solving, logical thinking, written/verbal communication, detail orientation, and much more. UTC’s MS program has helped me to not only gain some of these skills, but also refine the skills I already have.
What have you liked about the MS program?
I’ve enjoyed being able to do a lot of research on the different areas of Computer Science in this program.
Did you take any online courses? If yes, what did you most like about the online courses?
Yes. I’m in the online MS program and I like being able to set my own schedule – this has helped me remain productive and stay focused on my goal(s).
What opportunities have you had during your degree to gain other skills?
To gain more real-world experience in the Computer Science (CS) field, I had the opportunity to work as a Data Engineer intern with Vanderbilt University in the summer of 2021. This summer (2022), I’ll be working with Tennessee Valley Authority as a Technology & Innovation intern.
Have you had support from CECS faculty/staff?
The CECS faculty/staff are very supportive and care about the success of the students! As a student who came from a non-CS background, the faculty/staff always made sure to thoroughly explain fundamental CS concepts I had trouble with during my first semester.
The faculty/staff do a great job at making sure that different job opportunities are available to CECS students.
How has the program helped you?
The program has given me the tools and skills needed to succeed in my internships and professional career.
What has been the best part of your experience?
I would have to say interacting with other CECS students and working together on a variety of projects!
