Laura Bond knew she wanted to be a writer since the fourth grade. She received a diary for Christmas—complete with a neon tiger on the front and a plastic lock and key—and filled it in three days.
She followed her dream to UTC where she received an undergraduate degree in communication and a graduate degree in English. During her studies, she served as editor-in-chief of the student newspaper and an intern at the Chattanooga Area Chamber of Commerce.
After graduate school, Laura taught several classes of freshman composition at UTC. She still thinks of her 100+ former students often. She joined the Office of Communications and Marketing in January 2011 where she founded and developed the university’s flagship social media presence.
In her current role as staff writer, Laura is one of the university’s main storytellers. Her job is to shine a light on what makes UTC great—its people. She regularly writes features on students, alumni, faculty, staff and community partners for the UTC website and alumni magazine. She also assists with social media, public relations and other marketing projects.
When she’s not on campus, Laura can be found reading a good book, going for a run on the Riverwalk and spending time with her husband, David, and their pup, Albus Dumbledog.
