DPT Graduates Earn UTC's First
Doctorate
The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga awarded its first doctorates
during a hooding ceremony at commencement on December 14. Twenty-two
physical therapy students earned D.P.T. degrees during the ceremony.
"This is a significant advancement in the evolution of this campus," said
UTC Chancellor Bill Stacy. "The awarding of doctoral degrees elevates
the University in terms of status with our peers and places us on a higher
level among national institutions. The faculty and students of our Physical
Therapy Department have created a program that represents well our campus
and our commitment to advanced degrees."
Funding for equipment necessary to advance the master's program in physical
therapy to the doctoral level was provided by the Lupton Renaissance
Fund.
UTC has proposals for two other doctorate programs at varying stages
of development.
