Henry Woodard

Weightlifter wins national competitions

Freshman Henry Woodard has taken first place national honors in two USA Weightlifting competitions. USA Weightlifting is the national governing body for weightlifting in the United States.

Woodard, a native Chattanoogan, is a business major concentrating in entrepreneurship.

As a result of Woodard’s first place finish in Merrillville, Indiana, at the 2007 National Junior Weightlifting Championships, he has qualified for the upcoming Junior International Tournament in Palermo, Italy on June 29 through July 3. In the 169 pound weight class, this five year veteran lifted 292 pounds in the snatch competition, and 341 pounds in the clean and jerk.

In Reno, Nevada, Woodard placed first at the 2007 National Collegiate Championships, lifting 297 pounds in the snatch competition and 341 pounds in the clean and jerk. As a result of this performance, Woodard qualified for the upcoming World University Championships in Lima, Peru, beginning August 9 through August 12.
