ROTC agreement signed for this fall

ROTC landed back on the UTC campus in a big way this week. Major General Gus Hargett, Jr., adjutant general of the Tennessee Army National Guard, arrived on campus by helicopter on Thursday to participate in the official signing ceremony to reinstate ROTC at UTC.

“I am pleased to see ROTC returning to our campus,” said UTC Chancellor Roger Brown. “The leadership skills developed by a military science education are applicable to any career field, and the scholarship opportunities offered by the ROTC program help make a college degree possible for some students who otherwise would find higher education beyond their financial reach.”

Chancellor Brown and Maj. General Hargett signed the official agreement along with Dr. Loren Crabtree, chancellor of the University of Tennessee, Knoxville; Lt. Col. Marshall Ramsey, professor of military science at UTK; and Col. Robert Frusha, commander of the Eastern Region of the U.S. Army Cadet Command.

“It is overwhelming and very gratifying to see such interest in this program from the Chattanooga campus and community,” said Maj. General Hargett. “We are committed to make this program successful.”

Major Ben Smith has been appointed to oversee the UTC program. He is already recruiting students for the program which will begin serving students this fall.
