Join UTC Master Chorale

The UTC Master Chorale will begin rehearsals for its new summer season on May 15 at 7 p.m., in Cadek Hall, room 310. Founded in 2004, this choral ensemble is comprised of UTC graduate and undergraduate students and members of the Chattanooga area community who love to sing. The Chorale performs challenging literature from a variety of styles and historical time-periods.

Directed by UTC’s Director of Choral Activities and UC Foundation Assistant Professor Dr. J. Kevin Ford, the group collaborates with organist David Friberg for one concert during the summer months. In past seasons performances included major works by Morton Lauridsen, Wolfgang Mozart and Louis Vierne and many smaller works for accompanied and unaccompanied chorus.

Voice placement auditions for new members will be held the same night as the first rehearsal. Those who wish to audition should arrive early, and the assignment can be made. Rehearsals begin on May 15 and the concert will be held June 22. Visit for the full rehearsal schedule and the literature list.

Literature for this season will include music from a wide variety of countries. The major work will be a composition from the Austrian composer Franz Joseph Haydn. His Missa brevis de Joannes de Deo is also known as the Organ Solo Mass and be will performed with the original instrumentation of two violins and organ. Other literature will include In virtuta tua by the Polish composer Henrik Gorczycki, the lovely Ave Maria by Basque composer Javier Busto, Sleep by American composer Eric Whitacre, Ave Verum Corpus by Irish composer Colin Mabry along with others. Graduate conducting student Kaylan Wells will be the assistant conductor and she will conduct three of the compositions.
