Students hold advisory vote on Wellness Center fee increase

On March 7 and 8, the Student Government Association will conduct a referendum to gather student input on a proposed increase in the student wellness center fee. Students currently pay $50 per semester for the construction of a student wellness center.

Groundbreaking on the facility is expected to occur this summer with completion tentatively set for August 2008. The facility will include an indoor track, a recreational pool, a climbing wall, aerobics areas, and basketball courts. The project has been in the works for almost 10 years and students began paying the fee in fall 2003. Over time, the projected cost of the building has increased, necessitating the fee increase.

Students may vote online or in the University Center lobby from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on March 7-8. Please note that when voting online, use your UTCID as your registration code. The results of the vote will be advisory for the UTC administration when considering the fee increase.

Students will be voting for one of two options:

  • Option A is a gradual implementation of the fee with $15 per semester beginning in fall 2006, an additional $10 per semester in fall 2007, and an additional $15 per semester in fall 2008.
  • Option B is a proposed increase of $40 beginning in fall 2008.
