Tsai to perform at GPS

Concert pianist Dr. Sin-Hsing Tsai, UC Foundation Assistant Professor in the Department of Music, along with the Girls Preparatory School’s Upper School Instrumental Music groups will present the free GPS Upper School Fall Music Concert on Saturday, November 11 at 7:30 p.m. at the GPS’s Frierson Theatre. featuring the.   GPS’s VISIONS Guest Artist Sin-Hsing Tsai is a concert pianist, chamber musician and teacher.  She was born in Taiwan, studied in Argentina and Europe and speaks four languages.  She has an Artist Diploma from Germany and a doctoral degree from the University of Southern California.

The GPS Senior Orchestra will be accompanying Sin-Hsing Tsai as she performs the first movement of the Haydn Piano Concerto in D Major.  GPS’s Orchestras will also perform Bernstein’s Simple Song from his Mass, Prokofiev’s “Classical” Symphony: Finale, Bach’s Preludio from the E Major Violin Partitas, a Baroque Chorale, and a Celtic Rock Tune.  The GPS-McCallie Honors Orchestra will perform Rossini’s William Tell Overture and Santana’s “Smooth.”  The Tango String Ensemble will perform the first movement of Haydn’s String Quartet Op. 54 No. 1 and Gade’s Jalousie Tango.  The Wind Ensemble will perform Pachelbel’s Canon in D, Loeillet’s Adagio from Sonata No. 1 and a Duet Brilliant.   The GPS Jazz Band will perform “The Look of Love” by Bacharach & David, “Blue Skies” by Irving Berlin and Cally’s “Mr. Zoot Suit.”

The concert is free to the public and a reception follows in the Athletic Commons.   Please come and enjoy the music!
