Symphonic Band to perform works of Japanese composers

The UTC Symphonic Band will present a concert of Japanese composers on Friday, April 7, at 8 p.m. in the Roland Hayes Concert Hall of the UTC Fine Arts Center. The event is free and open to the public.

takizawaNaoya Takizawa from Tokyo will be featured as the guest conductor at the concert, the second in a series geared toward music of the world.

Born in Tokyo, Japan, Takizawa received his bachelor’s degree in trombone performance from the Musashino Academia Musicae (Musashino School of Music) in 1995. He moved to the United States and studied wind band, and he conducted with Robert E. Foster, James Barnes, and Thomas Stidham at the University of Kansas. There, Takizawa served as conductor of University Band from 1999-2000, and he received his Master’s degree of Music in 2000.

Takizawa is currently active as a guest conductor, clinician, and a lecturer, working with professional groups in Japan and Pacific Basin.

The UTC Tuba Euphonium Quartet will open the concert, under the direction of Dr. Kenyon Wilson.
