Dr. Rhonda A. Scott is the Chief Nursing Officer of Grady Health System in Atlanta, Georgia. Dr. Rhonda, as she is known by her staff, was born in Chattanooga, TN. In 1984, Dr. Scott graduated from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. In 1988 she received the Masters of Science in Nursing from Rush University in Chicago; in 1997, Dr. Scott received the Doctor of Philosophy in Nursing from Georgia State University in Atlanta, GA, and in 2005 Dr. Scott participated in the Nursing Executive Fellowship Program at Wharton at the Univ of PENN.

During her 22-year nursing career, Dr. Scott has held the positions of Administrator, Clinical Nurse Specialist, Consultant, Educator, Researcher, Author and Entrepreneur. Dr. Scott began her nursing career in the Critical Care Units of the University of Alabama Hospitals in Birmingham. She has also worked at The University of Chicago Hospitals, Rush-Presbyterian St. Luke’s Medical Center, Louis A. Weiss Memorial Hospital, St. Joseph’s Hospital of Atlanta, and South Fulton Medical Center. Dr. Scott was President/CEO of Clinical Nurse Specialist Associates, LLC, a nursing practice consulting firm that worked with many hospitals on implementing models of Nursing Excellence. Dr. Scott is a member of several professional nursing associations, and has served as President of the National Association of Clinical Nurse Specialists.

Dr. Scott has been widely recognized for her achievements in nursing. She was awarded the coveted Tenet “Outstanding Chief Nursing Officer Award” – the highest CNO recognition at Tenet. Dr. Scott has also received the Outstanding Graduate Student Award, the Outstanding Researcher Award, the Health Care Hero Award by the Atlanta Business Chronicle, the Up and Comers Award from Modern Health Care for Rising Stars in Health Care Management, the Fire Starter Award for Excellence in Health Care by the Studer Group, the Nursing Achievement Award from Chi Eta Phi, and the Woman Of Distinction Award from Chick-fil-A & Russell Athletics. She is a widely sought after international speaker in the areas of Nursing Outcomes, Patient Satisfaction, Professional Nursing Practice, and Health Related Topics.

Dr. Scott is known for eliminating contract labor, improving nursing, patient, & physician satisfaction, increasing recruitment & retention, and increasing nursing morale & professionalism. Dr. Scott served as the initiative champion for leading Patient Satisfaction from the worst in Tenet Health Systems to a 5 Star rating in one year. Dr. Scott is a frequent keynote speaker on “The Courage to Nurse” and is widely known for improving the image of nursing with the return of the traditional white nursing uniform. Dr. Rhonda can be found working side-by-side with her nursing staff to improve quality, safety, and satisfaction.

Dr. Scott is married to Thomas N. Scott, a District Manager for a Financial Services Company, and they have two sons, Thomas (14) and David (10).
