Patten Performances to begin Tuesday, September 19

The Patten Performances season is scheduled to debut with “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” and will continue to showcase amazing talent through March 2007. Blackfriars Stage Company, the touring arm of the American Shakespeare Center in Staunton, Virginia, recreates as closely as possible the original experience of Shakespeare’s theater.

Through the continued support of the UC Foundation and Tennessee Tomorrow, the 2006-2007 Patten season is set to be one the of the best ever, featuring one of the most talented lineups of performers ever seen at UTC’s Fine Arts Center.

Named in honor of Dorothy Patten, the UTC Patten Performances celebrated the opening of the UTC Fine Arts Center in 1980 and in more than 25 years since, has become Chattanooga’s Premiere Performing Arts Series.

Founded by internationally acclaimed choreographer, producer and teacher, Loyce Houlton, Minnesota Dane masterfully integrates ballet and modern techniques to create an engaging contemporary aesthetic.

Empire Brass
The five musicians, all of whom have held leading postitions with major American orchestras, perform over 100 concerts annually in cities including New York, Boston, Chicago, Washington, London, Zurich and Tokyo.

November 21                        
Imago Theater presents creature theatre populated with escaped penguins, silent sloths, finicky frogs.  Frogz has hopped, slithered, yowled and rolled through the United States, Europe and Asia, recently playing on Broadway to sold out houses and rave reviews.

January 11                        
Swingin’ the Benny Goodman Songbook
Terry Blaine/Allen Vachè/Mark Shane features an upbeat, toe-tapping show by shining the spotlight on female vocalists who sang with the Goodman band including Billie Holiday, Peggy Lee and Ella Fitzgerald among others.

February 12            
The Julliard String Quartet is internationally renowned and admired for performances of works by composers as diverse as Beethoven, Schubert, and Elliot Carter.

March 27
Hubbard Street 2 is a company of six dancers 25 years and younger who perform a repertoire of works by some of the nation’s most promising young choreographers.
