Student Alumni Council celebrates Founder’s Day

The Student Alumni Council (SAC) will be hosting a three-day celebration of the University’s 120 year history.

The University was founded on September 15, 1886.  In honor of its history and traditions, SAC will be providing the campus with knowledge facts, trivia, alumni discussions, and traditions.

Memorabilia tables will be displayed every day in the University Center Lobby from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m., showcasing the rich heritage of Chattanooga’s University.

An Alumni Panel Discussion will take place Wednesday, September 13 from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. in the UC-Chickamauga Room.  Alumni will provide exciting accounts of their times at the University, recount the changes they have seen on campus, and cover the traditions they observed.

On Thursday, September 14, 11 a.m. – 1 p.m., a fish fry will be held at the SGA Student Park, behind Brock Hall, in recognition of one of the oldest traditions at UTC.  Freshmen once had to roll up their pant legs in order to cross what was known as Oak Street River.  If an upperclassman caught a freshmen crossing without their waders, it was big trouble for the freshmen under suspicion!  Alumni who actually participated in the original crossing of “Oak Street River” will be at the Fish Fry to give a first-hand personal account.

Friday, September 15, 11 am – 1 p.m., a Birthday Celebration, complete with cake and balloons, will take place at the SGA Student Park.  The festivities will include music and giveaways for correct answers to the week’s trivia questions.

All events are free and open to the campus.
