The Chancellor’s Challenge

The Chancellor’s Challenge triathlon will be held Saturday, October 28, and it is open to both individuals and teams, in both the competitive series and the participation series.

“Teams may consist of any group of individuals from the UTC community, but no more than six players to a team,” according to Carol Oglesby, Health and Human Performance.

Individual players and teams will be timed and awarded separately. Participation teams and individuals must complete the triathlon to receive credit for the Chancellor's Challenge.
More than 600 faculty, staff and students are participating in the first UTC Chancellor's Challenge, a team event designed by the Department of Health and Human Performance to encourage the development of health lifestyles. Cash awards and special prizes will be awarded on the basis of sustained participation in the program.

“UTC employees and students are being encouraged to set personal goals for achieving moderate levels of exercise, to monitor progress toward these goals, and to develop healthier lifestyles that include daily physical activity,” said Dr. Greg Heath, head of the Department of Health and Human Performance.

Teams earn points for all physical activity and bonus points for participating in special events and activities hosted by the Chancellor's Challenge and other organizations promoting healthy living.
Upcoming events include:

  • Saturday, November 4, Chancellor’s Dance, a celebration of movement—Maclellan Gymnasium, 7-10 p.m.  Everyone is invited to participate.  Besides Ballroom Dancing, participants can Swing, Tango and Waltz to Jazz music and the oldies.
  • The Chancellor's Challenge Historical Hike, November 6.  Meet in Lansing Court at 5 p.m.  See historical and noteworthy sites in Chattanooga.  A drawing will be held for an MP3 Player.

All participants in the Challenge meeting minimum point requirements are eligible for multiple incentives and awards, inclusive of a $500 cash award from Chancellor Brown and a 32 inch television from the Department of Health and Human Performance for one faculty or staff member and one student. Participants taking part in any of the Bonus Activities listed on the Chancellor’s Challenge web page increase their chances of winning one of these wonderful celebration awards.
