Challenger Center expansion

For almost 10 years, the UTC Challenger Center has brought the experience of space exploration to more than 85,000 elementary and middle school students in our region.

On Friday, December 2, at 10 a.m., the Center will take another step in its continuing educational mission with the groundbreaking for an expansion of the building. Congressman Zach Wamp will join UTC Chancellor Dr. Roger Brown and Challenger Center staff members to announce the addition of three specialty classrooms to the facility.

The Challenger Center carries on the educational mission of the shuttle crew by incorporating math, science, and technology education into space exploration simulations. Since opening in Chattanooga, the center has served students from Chattanooga, Nashville, Knoxville, Memphis, and Atlanta and from as far away as Colorado, Florida, and Kentucky. Educators from Russia and Japan have also studied at the UTC Challenger Center.

In addition to math, science, and technology education, the center conducts team-building space missions for businesses and other organizations.
