UTC accounting programs earn separate distinction

The undergraduate and master’s accounting programs at The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga have joined an elite group of colleges worldwide to receive accreditation separate from the university’s other business programs.

For several years, both UTC’s bachelor’s degree in accounting and Master of Accountancy have been accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) International as part of the UTC College of Business’s overall accreditation.

The AACSB accreditation process allows accounting programs to document superior performance beyond standard requirements and to achieve separate accreditation.
Drs. John Fulmer, Kaye McClung and
Larry Ettkin attended the AACSB
conference in San Francisco where it
was announced that UTC's accounting
program received accreditation.

“It comes as no surprise that UTC’s Accounting Department has achieved this high honor,” said Warren McEwen, Member in charge of Audit at Hazlett, Lewis & Bieter, PLLC. “Their dedicated accounting faculty has a strong commitment to excellence, which can easily be seen in the outstanding quality of their graduates. This high standard is beneficial to the accounting profession in Chattanooga, because these future business leaders are better equipped to succeed in their careers.”

AACSB accreditation represents the highest standard of achievement for business schools and accounting programs. Institutions that earn this accreditation confirm their commitment to quality and continuous improvement through a rigorous and comprehensive peer review. AACSB accreditation is the hallmark of excellence in business education.

One in six business schools worldwide have earned this prestigious accreditation; one in seventeen accounting programs have earned this distinction. These accredited institutions are able to attract excellent faculty and provide students with the highest quality education.

In addition to accounting, the UTC College of Business offers a variety of B.S. and M.B.A. programs, including finance, entrepreneurship, management, and marketing. For more information about the college, call (423) 425-4313.
