Assistant Professor Named Substitute County Magistrate

Karen McGuffee, former assistant district attorney and current coordinator of the legal-assistant studies program at UTC, has been named one of four fill-in judicial commissioners, setting bonds for prisoners on nights and weekends at the Hamilton County Jail.

According to a story in the Chattanooga Times/Free Press, County Commissioners created three magistrate positions one year ago, however alternatives for sick leave or vacations were not appointed.

When Chief Magistrate Charles Rucker was hospitalized recently, it became urgent to find replacements.
