Financial Aid Mystery Unraveled through UTC Grant

Each public high school in Hamilton County will benefit from a grant awarded to UTC Financial Aid for the Peer Counselor Program. The grant provides assistance for low income students as they apply for financial aid, according to financial aid director Jonathan Looney.

"Our office is responsible for the selection and training of UTC students who will serve as peer counselors," Looney says. "They begin working in the schools in January."

The counselors will explain the process of completing a free application for federal student aid and will educate the students about various types of state and federal aid as well as loans available to them.

UTC has participated in this program for several years. The project is funded by Tennessee Student Assistance Corporation.
