UTC Homecoming Fun Scheduled for Alumni & Students

Starting Sunday, UTC student groups will begin painting banners with a blue and gold theme. The banners be hung Monday in the windows of participating downtown businesses.

On Tuesday, October 10, there will be a downtown pep rally at noon at Miller Plaza. Fans will be getting pumped for the homecoming game on Saturday against VMI.

Tuesday night there will be a student Lip Sync Contest starting at 6 p.m. in the Tennessee Room of the University Center.

Wednesday, October 11 will be Field Day from 12:15-5 p.m. on Chamberlain Field. It kicks off with the Bed Race on Vine Street. (A bed qualifies as anything flat that a student can lay upon.) After that, student groups will compete in bizarre events like the "Trout Joust." Picture this: a young woman on the shoulders of a young man, the young woman is holding a dead fish, and the idea is to whack the opponents with the dead fish. Less bizarre events include: Dizzy Bat Competition, a pie-eating contest and the Volleyball Tournament starting at 3:30 p.m.

On Thursday, October 12, the Distinguished Alumni Reception/Dinner will be held at 6:30 p.m. in the University Center. Dennis Haskins from "Saved By The Bell" will be honored. Reservations are required. The cost is $15.00 per person.

Also on Thursday night Delta Sigma Theta has scheduled a cookout at 6:30 p.m. on Oak Street by Lockmiller Apartments.

The Step Show will be held Thursday night at 8:30 p.m. at the Amphitheatre.

On the morning of Friday, October 13 the Homecoming Golf Tournament will begin at 11:30 a.m. with registration. Shotgun start will be at 12:30 p.m. at Creeks Bend Golf Club.

Friday afternoon, a student Golf Cart Parade will be held on campus. Decoration of the carts starts at 9 a.m. and the parade begins at 12:30 p.m.

Friday evening, the Mocs "Rock the Block" celebration will be held from 6 p.m.-9:30 p.m. on Broad Street Between 4th and 5th Streets. There will be live music provided by John Paul Williams and "Left Foot Down," children's activities organized by Phi ETA Rho, UTC cheerleaders, Sugar Mocs, Scrappy, coaches and players. Delicious food and drink will be steps away at any of the nearby restaurants. The Class of '75 will be having a 25th Reunion at Chattanooga Ducks.

The Annual Human Services Management/Legal Assistant Studies Student Alumni Homecoming will be held at the Riverpark, 4301 Amnicola Highway, West Pavilion. Contact Jane Kushma at 423/425-4519 to reserve a BBQ plate with your name on it.

On Saturday, October 14 the Annual Touchdown Run begins at 5:45 p.m. on Chamberlain Field to Finley Stadium. The Young Alumni Council at UTC is holding the annual Touchdown Run, which celebrates the history of football at UTC. In 1997, UTC games were moved from Chamberlain Field to Finley Stadium. In order to preserve the football heritage, a run was initiated that carried the tradition of UTC football from the campus to the south side.

The game ball for Homecoming will be run from Chamberlain Field to Finley Stadium along a 2.4 mile route. The run consists of approximately 25 legs with a UTC alumnus and/or faculty or staff member and a student running each leg side by side. The football game features the Mocs vs. VMI, and kickoff is at 7 p.m. at Finley Stadium. Special alumni seating is available by calling 423/266-MOCS.

UTC Band Alumni Post Game Jam session will be held at 9 p.m. at The Jazz Junctions: Main Street near the Stadium.
