MS Engineering

Admission Criteria

Admission criteria described are minimum requirements for MS program consideration. These minimum MS admissions requirements do not guarantee acceptance into a specific graduate degree program or the UTC Graduate School.

A baccalaureate degree in Engineering or a closely related field from a regionally accredited college or university or foreign equivalent.

If you have an unrelated degree, your application will be reviewed and based on your background degree(s), foundation courses will be recommended so you are ready for the program.

A 2.70 minimum GPA for all undergraduate work taken for the baccalaureate degree. All GPAs are based on a 4.0 point scale.

 

Application Requirements

A completed online application form available on the Web site at utc.edu/apply

Payment of the $35.00 nonrefundable application fee for domestic applicants or $40.00 for international applicants.
An official transcript from each college or university previously attended. These transcripts must be sent directly from the institution to The UTC Graduate School office.
Students whose native language is not English are required to provide scores for the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL), the International English Language Testing System (IELTS), or the Duolingo English Test. An official TOEFL score of 550 or above is required. A score of 213 or above on the computer-based test, or a score of 79 or above on the Internet-based test, is considered equivalent to a score of 550 or above on the paper-based test. IELTS scores must be 6.0 or higher.  Duolingo English Test scores must be 100 or higher (160-point scale).  Scores must be no more than two years old.  Applicants who have received a degree from a U.S. institution in the past two years are exempt from the language proficiency requirement.
GRE scores are required for international students. The submitted test score can be no older than five years old.

A 2.70 minimum GPA for all undergraduate work taken for the baccalaureate degree. All GPAs are based on a 4.0 point scale.

MS Computer Science

Admission Criteria

Admission criteria described are minimum requirements for MS program consideration. These minimum MS admissions requirements do not guarantee acceptance into a specific graduate degree program or the UTC Graduate School.

A baccalaureate degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a closely related field from a regionally accredited college or university or foreign equivalent. If you have an unrelated degree, your application will be reviewed and based on your background degree(s) foundation courses in Computer Science and/or Mathematics will be recommended so you are ready for the program.

A 2.70 minimum GPA for all undergraduate work taken for the baccalaureate degree. International students, and domestic students without a previous degree in the computing discipline must have a 2.9 minimum GPA. All GPAs are based on a 4.0 point scale.

International students whose first language is not English must have an official Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) score of 220 or above on the computer-based test, or a score of 83 or above on the Internet-based test, or an International English Language Testing System (IELTS) score of 6.5 or above.*

*Duolingo English Test scores are now being accepted at UTC.  A score of 107 or higher (160-point scale) on the Duolingo English Test will be considered as an acceptable alternative to a TOEFL/IELTS score for admission to the program.  Scores must be no more than two years old.
