Information Assurance Scholarship Program (IASP)

 

Program Requirements

  • Must be 18 years of age or older
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen or Permanent resident of the United States
  • Must be enrolled in one of the CAE colleges or universities
  • Must be pursuing studies in a technical discipline related to cybersecurity with a concentration in cybersecurity.
  • Must be recommended by college or university for this scholarship
  • If an undergraduate student, you must have completed (or will have completed by August 2018) a minimum of the first two years of your undergraduate degree
  • If a graduate student, you must be in the first or second year of your college or university’s MS program, or be pursuing doctoral studies at that college or university

Program Benefits

  • Full cost of tuition, books (from the institution/degree required books, not books that are optional for the class), and required fees (health care included). 
  • Provision of academic year stipends of $25,000/year for undergraduate students (rising Junior/Senior in fall 2018) and $30,000/year for graduate (Master’s/PhD) students.
  • Sponsors who will facilitate entry into internships, if applicable, and eventually into DoD employment.

Program Obligations

  • After graduation, students must work for the DoD as a civilian employee for a period equivalent to the length of the scholarship or one year, whichever is longer (this also applies to students who apply for only one semester [six months]).
  • If timing permits, students must participate in DoD organization internships from the time of the award until the time of degree completion (during summer or other breaks between terms).
  • Completion of security questionnaire for background investigation.

 Maintaining Scholarship Criteria

Undergraduate

  • Must attend full-time
  • Minimum 3.2 GPA on 4.0 scale in their major
  • Complete their assigned research and learning activities
  • Must obtain security clearance

Graduate

  • Must attend full-time
  • Minimum 3.5 GPA on 4.0 scale in their major
  • Complete their assigned research and learning activities
  • Must obtain security clearance

Application Process

For new applicants

  • Fill out the IASP Student Application
  • Students may attach a separate sheet with information regarding academic honors, distinctions and other awards
  • Complete and attach the Statement of Academic Sufficiency supplement document
  • Students should also attach their resume
  • The applicants official transcript(s) from all institutions of higher education attended
  • The applicants current Grade Point Average (GPA)
  • Two letters of reference: one from a current faculty member who is knowledgeable of the student’s potential and one from either a current or former faculty member, or current or former supervisor who is knowledgeable of the student’s ability.
  • Complete the OF612 Supplemental Competency Statement with responses to the level your attainment of the knowledge and ability factors listed.
  • Signature of OF612 Supplemental Statement of General Academic Employment Conditions
  • Submit application package to Dr. Li Yang (Li-Yang@utc.edu), not the DoD
