MKT 5000/Innovation

Course Description: Research on management competencies consistently shows that the ability to cultivate innovation ranks among the top five competencies determining the promotion and success or failure of mid and senior-level individual contributors, managers, and leaders. It also is one of the hardest to learn management competencies. Unsurprisingly, the failure to cultivate innovation accounts for half of the factors causing firms to stall in their revenue growth. This course introduces the dominant theories, models, frameworks, and concepts of business innovation. Students learn the theory side of innovation from course readings, gamified mobile learning, on-line discussions and exercises as well as through frequent, low-stakes tetsing. Students learn the practice of innovation from the "fuzzy front-end" of discovery and ideation through to prototyping and pitching for funding by working on innovation projects of their own passion and purpose.
