Terry is responsible for managing the College of Arts and Sciences Budget  and coordinating contracts and  hiring/transfers for college full-time and part-time faculty and staff.

Originally from Alabama, but growing up in Chicago, Terry attended college at the University of Montevallo in central Alabama for both his bachelors and masters degrees which were earned in music education and theory, respectively.

Terry is a twenty-two year veteran teacher, having served twenty years in Chattanooga schools at the elementary, middle and high school levels. His choirs achieved great respect among local audiences, and among their top honors under his direction, is the distinction of performing at the 2000 Music Educators National Conference annual national conference in Washington, DC where they were the Warner Bros. Music Co. demonstration choir in the music of Dave Brubeck; they were invited at the request of Mr. Brubeck and this was the only time Brubeck ever appeared with a high school choir as an accompanist! Mr. Sanford continues his association with Mr. Brubeck having transcribed most of his choral music for publication by Warner Bros. and Alfred Publishing companies, as well as having written the piano reduction for Chris Brubeck's Trombone Concerto.

Terry has served as President and Executive Board member of the East TN Vocal Association and the Tennessee Music Education Association as well as currently serving as the webmaster for both those organizations. He was the first TN State Choral Chair and served for four years the TN All State General Chair.

Terry is an experienced accompanist, having provided that function in high school and college choirs as well as for the Chattanooga Symphony Chorus. As a singer he has appeared as a soloist and chorister with Chattanooga Symphony and Opera Choruses, Choral Arts, Chattanooga Bach Choir, and Chattanooga Scenic City Chorale. He made his Chattanooga Symphony Opera debut in the role of Antonio in Mozart's Marriage of Figaro. He made his Chattanooga Theater Center debut as the Basso in Sondheim's A Little Night Music.

Mr. Sanford is active in community theater in Chattanooga working particularly with Closed Door Entertainment in the roles of musical director and principal keyboard. Among his proudest productions with CDE are the Nov. 2013 production of Les Miserables and the Fall 2014 production of Titanic the Musical.

Mr. Sanford came to UTC in October of 2008 as Administrative Assistant to the Choral Director. He currently is the Budget Manager for the College of Arts and Sciences.
