Sweet Home: Growing Up Femme, Queer and Angry in the South

Details: Danielle Hurd is a southern queer womanist, an RJ organizer, who will be speaking on her experience growing up femme, queer and angry in the South. Danielle is a two-time graduate from the University of Alabama’s Gender and Race Studies Department and currently the Leadership Development Coordinator at URGE: Unite for Reproductive and Gender Equity. She was born and raised in Birmingham, Alabama.

Step Movie Screening & Discussion

Details: The Center for Women and Gender Equity in collaboration with the Multicultural Center will be screening the documentary Step. IMDB shares that Step follows, “the senior year of a girls' high-school step dance team against the background of inner-city Baltimore. As each one tries to become the first in their families to attend college, the girls strive to make their dancing a success against the backdrop of social unrest in the troubled city..” Popcorn and drinks will be provided.

Details: The luncheon will feature local women leaders sharing their leadership experiences and providing insight on their professional journeys.

Each invited guest will be assigned to a table to eat lunch with students and participate in a more intimate, guided discussion where students will be encouraged to ask more questions and network.
