Southern Photo and Film Collective
Southern Photo & Film Collective
Launching in Spring 2026
Mission
The mission of the Southern Photo & Film Collective (SPFC) is to provide aesthetic venues and programs to challenge, nurture, excite and reveal meaningful understandings of visual literacy, artistry and history through preservation, presentation, education, and innovation of photography and motion images.
Vision
SPFC will provide a cultural presence, tourist attraction, educational resource, learning center, gallery and intellectual meeting ground for celebrated visual artists and the public. SPFC’s explorations of photographic and motion media through education, exhibition, collection, publication, and the web will examine the history of photographic imagery with special focus on the American South and the photographers, filmmakers, and documentarians who worked and lived there. It will celebrate and present visual artists who have captured iconic images both past and present. It will empower visual artists of the future to visually record the beauty, history, culture, and human experience of the American South and beyond.
Core Beliefs
Photographic and moving Imagery records occupy a vital and central place in our culture. These artistic images reflect and influence social change, provide a historical record, and are essential to visual communication and education. Images help us bring order to a disordered world. They transcend language, class, culture, and education. They form a bridge to understanding.
Core Values
SPFC values non-fiction documentary and visual imagery that balances community goals with individual artistic expression. Through understanding and illumination, SPFC will amplify voices, advance human dignity, and promote mutual respect by breaking down barriers.
