UTC Faculty Awards and Criteria

Each year the UTC has the opportunity to honor a faculty member for excellence in teaching, research and creative accomplishments and service to students and the public. We also honor a lecturer or adjunct for teaching excellence.

General Application Procedures

Faculty, lecturers, or adjuncts receiving an award in at the college level for the current year will be automatically considered for a university-level recognition. A nominee application packet should demonstrate the quality, depth and scope to reflect achievement in the area for which the candidate is nominated. For the purposes of these awards, the complete portfolio is limited to 30 single-spaced pages printed on one side of each page.


TEACHING UTC

Tenured and Tenure-track Teaching Award

Eligibility

  • Full time tenured or tenure-track faculty
  • Minimum of three years of completed service at UTC
  • A faculty member is eligible to receive this award once every three years.

Required application materials (only provide information requested for the previous three years)

  • - Applicant's student evaluations of teaching
  • - Course materials (minimum of two different courses)

Supplemental materials:

  • Direction of honors theses, and/or graduate theses and dissertations
  • Professional development activities related to teaching and learning
  • Grants to redesign or innovate courses
  • Invited lectures on pedagogy
  • Evidence of creative/innovative approaches in the classroom (face to face or virtual)
  • Active participation in discipline, program/degree and/or department curriculum process
  • Other awards, honors and recognitions received for teaching

UTC Lecturer/Adjunct Teaching Award

Lecturer Eligibility

  • Classified as a lecturer for employment purposes
  • Minimum of two years of completed service at UTC
  • A lecturer is eligible to receive this award once every three years.

Adjunct Eligibility

  • Classified as an adjunct for employment purposes
  • Must have taught as an adjunct in at least one semester in each of the past three years
  • An adjunct is eligible to receive this award once every three years.

RESEARCH

UTC Lifetime Research and Creative Achievement Award

Eligibility

  • Full time tenured faculty member
  • Minimum of 15 years of completed service at UTC
  • A faculty member is eligible to receive this award once

Application materials

  • Research and scholarly activities during the faculty member's service at UTC
  • List of all scholarly publications and/or creative activities
  • List of research grants and contracts awarded or placing in adjudicated creative activities
  • Presentations at regional, national, and international conferences, especially noting invited presentations;
  • Invited presentation of creative endeavors, e.g. To play or sing an original musical piece or show original artwork

UTC Service Award

Eligibility

  • Full time tenured or tenure-track faculty member
  • Minimum of three years of completed service at UTC
  • A faculty member is eligible to receive this award once every three years.

  • Examples of the service provided and the frequency of the service
  • Input from individuals or entities who are recipients of the service

UTC Advising Award

Eligibility

  • Full time tenured or tenure-track faculty member
  • Minimum of three years of completed service at UTC
  • A faculty member is eligible to receive this award once every three years.

Application materials (only provide information requested for the previous three years)

  • Provide the context of the nature of advising sessions with examples (developmental versus prescriptive)
  • Frequency of different types of activities that take place during advising sessions
  • Student satisfaction with the advising session, e.g., increased knowledge of academic environment, understanding career goals, etc.
  • Number and evidence of the quality of advising sessions
  • Examples of assisting the students with educational challenges, e.g. class schedule preparation, getting registered for a bottleneck or full class, advising a student regarding how to manage a job and class schedule, or working with students throughout a semester, just to mention a few examples
  • Faculty receiving the college-level recognition will be automatically considered for the university-level award.
