Faculty Executive Administration Internship in the Office of the Provost


This internship will provide an opportunity for a faculty member to gain a better understanding of administrative operations and also provide a faculty member an opportunity to explore administration positions for future professional advancement. The internship will be awarded for an August 15th to May commencement (9 months) time period and be a half-time (50%) appointment in the Provost’s Office. The department of the faculty member chosen for the internship will receive $25,000 to cover replacement instructional costs. Dollars not spent on replacing instructional needs, may be spent at the discretion of the department head.

Internship Opportunities and Expectations

The intern will be expected to attend various administrative meetings, such as Deans’ Council and Provost’s Council. The intern may be assigned responsibilities in any of the offices reporting to the Provost. Assignments could include working with enrollment services, student success, budget, and/or policy issues. The intern will be provided financial support during the year serving as an intern, to attend one conference related to academic affairs issues and/or leadership development.

Upon completing the internship, the participant will be expected to submit a summary to the Provost, listing the activities/projects he or she worked on and the status of each activity/project.  In addition, the applicant is requested to provide suggestions as to how the internship program can be improved.


Only full time (9 month) faculty are eligible. In addition, a faculty member must be tenured and hold the rank of associate professor or professor. Priority will be given to a faculty member not currently serving in an administrative role, such as department head.

Faculty Internship Application

A letter must be submitted as part of the application. The letter can be no longer than 2 pages, single space, font size 11 or 12 pt. The letter should include the reason for interest in the internship, and how the applicant believes the program will benefit his/her professional development.

The abbreviated CV should include any administrative responsibilities the applicant may have had. Examples of responsibilities could include a committee chair, graduate program coordinator or similar types of activities.

Selection Process

All applications will be reviewed by an ad hoc group appointed by the Provost. This group will provide input to the Provost. The Provost will make the final selection of the individual to be awarded the internship. The internship will begin August 15th of the next fiscal year.
