What IS Multimedia?
Media that has a number of different aspects: audio, video, images, graphics,
etc.
Basic Multimedia
-
Could be as simple as a slide presentation using PowerPoint, Persuasion,
or Astound.
Advanced Multimedia
-
Generally includes a computer program that "runs" the presentation, based
on a user's selections.
Components of Multimedia

authoring program or langauage
Planning & Producing Multimedia

Determine goal and objectives for the project-What do you want to teach?
What level of knowledge or skill do you expect when the students complete
the program or activity?

Outline audience and audience level-Who are they? Are they novices in the
content area or advanced?

Outline content scope, user interface, "look and feel" of the program.
You may also want to flowchart the program scope and content as well as
script the audio and video sequences.

Produce the components for the multimedia project-the computer program,
the graphics, text, video, image files, and any accompanying print materials.

Test and re-test all the components-pilot and field test the program on
colleagues and students.

A Word about Copyright
Watch what you copy for your multimedia and what software you use to create
your multimedia program, especially if you plan on distributing it, either
to students, over the Internet or on CD-ROM. Just because it is possible
to copy something, doesn't mean it's fair use or legal.
