My office hours in the Political Science office (Fletcher 417G) will be TTh 8:30 am to 9:15 am and by appointment. I can also meet with you in the Dean's office (Holt 118), if you speak with me or phone about an appointment.

Dr. Bob Swansbrough has extensive practical experience and academic knowledge of the political world. He has served as a congressional aide, campaign manager, political pollster, TV political analyst and professor of Political Science at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga.

Dr. Swansbrough presently serves as associate dean of the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga's College of Arts and Sciences. He chaired the Political Science Department at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga from l980-l990. He was President of the Tennessee Political Science Association from l987-l988.

Swansbrough was a Congressional Fellow of the American Political Science Association in l969-70, working for then-Congressman John Tunney of California and Senator Fred Harris of Oklahoma. Before arriving at UTC, he taught at the College of William and Mary.

Bob Swansbrough has managed seven congressional campaigns in Tennessee and California. He served as Tennessee Congresswoman Marilyn Lloyd's Washington, D.C., administrative assistant after her l974 victory.

He has served as the Election Day political analyst for Chattanooga's CBS-affiliate TV station (l990 and l996) and ABC-affiliate TV station (l992 and l994). Swansbrough has conducted numerous public opinion surveys for gubernatorial, congressional, and mayoral political candidates, ballot referendum issues and private companies.

A recognized expert on southern politics, Swansbrough's publications include Political Change in Tennessee, The South's New Politics and chapters on Tennessee politics in The l988 Presidential Election in the South ,The l992 Presidential Election in the South and, The l996 Presidential Election in the South and The 2000 Presidential Election in the South. He's also published articles in Campaigns and Elections, the Journal of Politics, and the Southeastern Political Review.

His professional studies focus on the leadership styles of Presidents Jimmy Carter, Ronald Reagan, George Bush and Bill Clinton. The international journal Political Psychology recently published his article on the impact of President Bush's personality and leadership style during the Gulf War.

Bob Swansbrough received his Ph.D. in Political Science from the University of California at Santa Barbara, after serving as a Navy officer [Lt(jg)] in the Pacific.
