You will be evaluating the attendance, participation and substantive contributions of your Democratic or Republican team members in the course's on-line discussion forums, small group meetings, and class presentations. Remember that team listserve/discussion forum/class participation comprise 15% of everyone's individual course grade. Teams are an increasing fact of life in today's workplace. Knowing how to act as a productive team member will be important in your future career.
We will assume that your team won the World Series. There are only so many dollars (points) to award for each member of the winning team, so each team member allocates those rewards based upon what they feel each member contributed to the team's victory. An average winner's bonus will entail 2 points per team member. The Most Valuable Player --who contributed the most to your team's successful efforts--would receive an extra 2 points (maximum of 4 points). If some players didn't contribute anything in class--or very little to the discussion forum/listserve communication and planning activity-they may be given only 1 point and others who took their load can be given more points. If someone didn't contribute to the listserve or discussion forums their research findings or ideas-or show up for the class activities-he/she may get zero points.
Thus, if you have six team members, you will have a total of 14 points to divide among your teammates, based upon their respective contributions to your collaborative efforts--or lack thereof. The points of any person who made few or no contributions to your team may be distributed to other team members to reflect their extra efforts. Therefore, team members can individually receive anywhere between zero (0) and four (4) points. Your total number of points may not exceed the maximum points listed after your team name (based upon the number of members of your team plus 2 points for the MVP). The MVP's two bonus points could be divided between two of the team's members to reflect the significant contributions of two team members.
Give a brief comment on how you evaluated each team member's contribution when assigning those bonus points. Example: "She led our discussions and was always prepared." Or, "He never showed up!" Use reverse side of paper if necessary.
