MASTERS DEGREE

IN PUBLIC ADMINISTRATION

Capstone Seminar (PS 540)

Professor Bob Swansbrough

Spring 2007

OVERVIEW

The MPA Capstone Seminar has been designed to bring together the topics you have discussed throughout your MPA studies. The weekly seminars, with several MPA faculty member in the classroom, provide different perspectives on the public policies, organizational theories, ethical issues and management skills you have examined in this MPA program. The MPA faculty expect broadranging, informed discussion by all members of the class, involving both the assigned readings for the evening and materials covered in other seminars. Case studies will often involve role playing to add hands-on realism to the analyses of actual public policy problems. A major component of the course will be a study of the ever-growing importance of teams in the private and public sector and the dynamics of teambuilding. We will also explore the changing demands of leadership in the fast-changing 21st century.
