Nursing students take concerns to Nashville

Several members of the nursing faculty, Drs. Gerry Ann Bosworth, Harriet Wichowski, Virginia Keatley and Professor Martha Butterfield visited Nashville for the annual "Nursing Students on the Move- Capitol Hill Day," sponsored by the Tennessee Nurses' Association.

"Over 1600 nursing students from throughout the state attended, and they enjoyed the program and chances to speak with legislators about concerns regarding health care," said Bosworth.

UTC nursing students met with State Senators Ward Crutchfield and David Fowler. Bosworth said the students conveyed their number one concern--the need for more attention to institutes of higher learning.

"Our students were quite articulate, saying that if UTC does not have the money to hire more faculty to teach, then it cannot resolve the nursing shortage that is so critical," Bosworth said.
