enough to earn a berth to the tournament."
It has also been announced that Chattanooga and UTC will host the 2005
Southern Conference Men's and Women's Basketball Championships and the
2005 NCAA Women's Regional in The McKenzie Arena.
Sports Committee Chairman King Copler said, "This is fantastic news.
We are becoming a hotbed for basketball it seems. We are now hosting NCAA
Women's First and Seconds Rounds in 2004, an NCAA Women's Regional in
2005, as well as the Southern Conference Men's and Women's Basketball
Championships in 2005. I'm proud of The Sports Committee and the University
for securing this latest event."

"We are ecstatic to be able to host an event of this caliber,"
said Laura Mincy, UTC's Assistant Athletics Director and Senior Woman
Administrator. "We know that Chattanooga loves to see great basketball
and will come out to support this event. This truly validates that our
women’s basketball program is growing in national exposure and recognition."
UTC Lady Mocs head coach Wes Moore has taken his team to the NCAA Tournament
for three consecutive seasons. A fourth straight berth would mean the
Lady Mocs would open the tournament on their home floor.
"This is just another example of how well-respected Chattanooga is
in women's basketball circles," Moore said.
The Administrative Committee of the NCAA Division I Championships/Competition
Cabinet has approved the sites.
