High School Students Invited to UTC Engineering Festival

Student planners of the upcoming HORIZON: UTC Engineering & Science Festival scheduled for Thursday, October 9, 11 a.m.-7 p.m., Lupton Library Portico are hoping to augment the interest of high school students in engineering and the sciences, according to Lien Gangte, Festival Coordinator.

"It is an event organized and initiated purely by students. From science teachers to the least student, we desire to instill a keen interest in engineering and the sciences. The festival will also serve as a platform from which students can establish a presence in the community and spread scientific awareness all round them," Gangte said.

The invited Keynote speaker for the event is Congressman Zach Wamp, who will address the need to produce more engineers and scientists for the advancement of technology. Wamp will speak at 3:30 p.m.

UTC students from the College of Engineering, Math and Computer Science and the Chemistry Department are involved in the festival, and all Hamilton County high schools and private schools are invited.

The featured exhibitions will be Electrical World, Civil World, Mechanical World, Chemical World, Computer World and Industrial World. A colloquium for teachers is also scheduled. Interested high school teachers will have an opportunity to attend a presentation on engineering education and how it can be applied to build interest among students in area high schools.
