Nelson to Address December Graduates

Dr. Charles Nelson, professor and head of Biological and Environmental Sciences at The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, will deliver the commencement address before approximately 550 graduates on Sunday, December 19, at 2 p.m. in McKenzie Arena.
Board certified by the Entomological society of America since 1983, Nelson has been published extensively. He has presented numerous seminars and secured a number of grants during his career. In 1995, Nelson, Dr. Mark Shorr and Dr. Gene Van Horn received a grant from the Tennessee Aquarium, Tennessee Valley Authority, Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency , and The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga to evaluate constructed wetlands in the North Chickamauga Creek.
In 1996 and 1997 he received the Rolling Stonefly News Award for Excellence in Plecoptera Research. He was elected a Fellow,in the Tennessee Academy of Science in 1979.
Nelson was honored with the Excellence in Scholarship Award from the College of Arts and Sciences, UTC, in 1992. He was named Outstanding Teacher in the College of Arts and Sciences, UTC in 1986-87, and elected to the Council of Scholars at UTC in 1985.
