County to Locate CEG Facility at UTC
Hamilton County Mayor Claude Ramsey and Chancellor Fred Obear are pleased to announce an agreement of intent to establish Hamilton County's high tech incubator on the campus of UTC. This facility will be housed in the UTC College of Engineering and Computer Science and managed by the county's Center for Entrepreneurial Growth (CEG).
Mayor Ramsey said, "The CEG program has surpassed our expectations over its first 18 months in existence. The time is right for us to take the next step in providing technology based start-up companies with the additional developmental and support resources they need to be successful. We appreciate the support of UTC as we move this opportunity forward."
Fred Obear, acting Chancellor for UTC, commented, "This is indeed a great opportunity for the University, our faculty, our students, and the entire community. This gives us a distinct opportunity to showcase our unique talents and facilities in a way that directly supports our mission in the community."
John Riddell, Hamilton County Director for the CEG had the following observations, "This unique program is the direct result and an example of outstanding 'thinking outside of the box leadership' from Mayor Ramsey to Chancellor Obear, to Dean Ron Bailey of the Engineering School to Dean Richard Casavant of the Business College."
Regarding particulars of the facility and the program, Mr. Riddell went on to comment, "This facility will be a tremendous resource for technology based start-ups in this community. Not only will selected clients have access to the Tech 2020 business development programs, but they will also have access to the tremendous faculty expertise that resides in both the Engineering and Business Schools. As a client in this facility, these companies will be incubator residents from ideation up through prototype or beta testing. As a client, they will also have access to the labs in the engineering school. And all of this support, all of these resources will be free to selected clients. We see this not only as a producer of great opportunities but also as a recruiter of great opportunities."
The target date for the opening of this facility is January of '05. Interested parties wishing to be considered for tenancy should contact Mr. Riddell (755-5547) for more information.
