University Honors students donate proceeds from fundraiser
University Honors (UHON) students recently sponsored a light-hearted fundraiser that netted serious proceeds for a local non-profit organization.
UHON students Darris Saylors and Kelly Jo Fulkerson
present a check to Erin Creal, the Executive Director of
Room in the Inn.
According to Darris Saylors and Kelly Jo Fulkerson, two University Honors students, a UHON Date Auction raised $4,000 for Chattanooga Room in the Inn. “That's double what we donated last time we sponsored their organization, so we were all very proud of this year's auction!!” Saylors said.
Erin Creal, Room In the Inn Executive Director, was most appreciative of the students’ effort.
“It was such a success!” Creal said. “We are grateful for the students’ contribution, which will be used to help cover general operating expenses.”
Room in the Inn is a 90-day residential shelter for homeless women and children. Its mission is to “empower homeless women and children to become self-sufficient by offering a temporary home while providing programs and services necessary to meet their goals.”
“It is amazing that university students think of us; we did not approach them,” Creal said. “I am appreciative of how much time it took to coordinate a fundraiser like this, because I know how busy college students are."
