Forrest Robinson, India.Arie drummer, to offer free clinic, performance

Forrest Robinson, drummer for Grammy winner and six-time Grammy nominee India.Arie, will offer an informal drum set clinic geared toward students of all ages.  The clinic will be held Monday, October 9 at 4 p.m. in the Roland Hayes Concert Hall, UTC Fine Arts Center at the corner of Vine and Palmetto.

“At the clinic, Robinson will talk about a number of the challenges, musical and otherwise, which he faces as one of the most sought-after session and live performance drummers in the country,” said Dr. Monte Coulter, professor of music.  “He will also demonstrate by playing examples.  This session will last no more than one hour.”

Later that night, at 7 p.m., Robinson will appear on a short program with the UTC Percussion Ensemble, directed by Dr. Monte Coulter.  This program, also in the Roland Hayes Concert Hall, will culminate in a performance of "Suite for Solo Drum Set and Percussion Ensemble" by David Mancini.  Both the clinic and performance are free and open to the public.

Robinson, an alumnus of UTC, has performed on “Saturday Night Live,” “Late Show with David Letterman,” “Good Morning America,” and many other national television programs.  He and has toured the world, playing large arenas with India.Arie, Janet Jackson, and other international artists.

Robinson’s clinic and performance at UTC are supported by Gretch drums, the UTC Music Department, and the Percussive Arts Society.  For more information, email Monte-Coulter@utc.edu or call (423)425-4647.
