Kudos for Physics and Geology Departments
Both the Physics and Geology programs received perfect scores on Tennessee Higher Education Commission's (THEC’s) assessment standards and were lauded for their impressive accomplishments despite budget constraints.
Both programs recently hosted external evaluators as part of their academic review process, and each received perfect 100 percent scores.
“The reviewer for the Physics program was particularly impressed with the exceptional dedication of the faculty to educating students, noting their extraordinary efforts to maintain current offerings, especially of upper level courses, while shouldering heavy teaching loads,” according to Diane Miller, Director of Grants. “The reviewer also praised UTC's extensive public astronomy program, which is operated by the Physics program.”
The Geology program faculty's commitment to providing students with research opportunities and field experiences was also noted by the reviewer. The program's annual trip to Costa Rica and its new NSF-funded analytical x-ray lab were cited as evidence of this commitment.
“These well-deserved commendations demonstrate the programs' quality and underscore the faculty's commitment to providing rewarding and meaningful educational experiences for UTC students,” Miller said.
