Williams selected as Beta Alpha Psi Accountant of the Year

the College of Business Administration Dean’s

of Accounting and Finance Department.

Eleonore H. Williams was selected as the Beta Alpha Psi Accountant of the Year for 2006. The Etta Kappa Chapter of Beta Alpha Psi (BAP) is a professional, international honors organization for accounting, finance, and information systems majors. Beta Alpha Psi recognizes academic excellence and complements members’ formal education by providing interaction and networking among students, faculty and professionals.

“Ms. Williams is being recognized as one of the women pioneers in the accounting profession in Chattanooga,” said Dr. Kay Sheridan, Associate Professor of Accounting and Head of the Department of Accounting and Finance. “She became a CPA in 1947, and she has continued to work in the accounting profession in Chattanooga since that date.”

Educated at Edmondson Business College and later the University of Chattanooga, Williams is a member of the Tennessee Society of Certified Public Accountants, Chattanooga Tax Practitioners, and American Society of Women Accountants. In ASWA, Williams served as third president of the local chapter and again as president. She also served in many other capacities locally, and on the National Board of ASWA.

In 2000, Williams received the first Woman of Achievement Award, presented by the Chattanooga Chapter of American Society of Women Accountants.

Williams is a member of the Board of Trustees and the Executive Committee of Bethel Bible Village. She is also serving as Secretary of the Board. In 1994, Bethel Bible Village named a cottage in her honor. Williams is a member of the Board ofTrustees of Public School Bible Study Committee. She previously served on the Board of Directors of Opportunity Home for Girls.

A hiking and tennis enthusiast, Williams currently serves as president of the Cumberland Hiking Club, and she is a volunteer at the Chattanooga Nature Center.

The presentation of the Beta Alpha Psi Accountant of the Year award to Eleonore Williams was made by Grady Williams, CPA, affiliated with the firm of Petty & Landis. The two worked together for many years at Hazlett, Lewis & Bieter.
